McDonough Jail Release Paths
A person can leave McDonough County Jail in several ways. A court may order pretrial release, dismiss the case, impose a sentence that is satisfied by time served, or enter another order authorizing discharge. A completed county sentence can also end local confinement. Yet leaving this building does not always mean returning to the community. The jail may transfer someone to IDOC, another county, federal custody, or an authority acting on a warrant or detainer. A detainer is a request or legal basis for another authority to take custody.
The jail register or discharge entry should identify the date and time of discharge or transfer and may state the reason, releasing authority, or destination. Ask whether the record says “discharged” or “transferred.” If a code appears, request the existing code key. Do not ask staff to guess where the person later went. The destination should be reported only as the record states it.
| Recorded outcome | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Community discharge | Court order and any probation or pretrial conditions |
| IDOC transfer | IDOC offender search after intake processing |
| Another county | Receiving sheriff or jail |
| Federal or USMS transfer | Federal docket, holding facility, then BOP if committed |
| ICE transfer | ICE locator or information line |
Confirm McDonough Jail Release
No official McDonough 24-hour, 72-hour, current-roster, or release-toggle page was found as of July 16, 2026. The sheriff site offers agency pages, warrants, Crime Stoppers, Offender Watch, and selected Recent Events. None is a complete custody ledger. Use a sequence that can still work after someone disappears from a current list.
- Call McDonough County Jail at 309-833-5245. Provide a full name and an approximate booking date or date of birth when needed to separate similar names.
- Ask whether the record shows discharge from McDonough custody or transfer to another custodian, plus the effective date and time.
- Check the Circuit Clerk case for the entered release, dismissal, sentence, probation, or transfer order. A daily docket only shows a scheduled or recorded event, not always the final order.
- Use Illinois VINE as a custody-change and notification layer. Treat a transfer event as a transfer, not as community release.
- If staff cannot give the details by telephone, request the jail-register entry, booking sheet, and discharge or transfer record in writing.
The full McDonough County released inmate search explains how these channels fit together. A sheriff entry and court order that agree provide stronger proof than a third-party list or a vanished name.
Leaving the McDonough jail roster is not proof of freedom. The person may have moved to another county, IDOC, USMS, BOP, or ICE custody.
McDonough Jail Records Contact
The Sheriff is the custodian of the physical county booking and discharge record, even when another police agency made the arrest. An arresting agency may keep its incident report but may not own the final jail-release timestamp or know about a later hold.

Request McDonough Release Records
Name the documents and fields. Request the jail-register entry, booking or intake sheet, and discharge or transfer entry for the identified person and date range. Ask for booking number, received date and time, discharge or transfer date and time, release reason or type, releasing authority or court-order reference, charge or case number, and receiving authority if transferred. A booking photograph may be requested when and if available.
5 ILCS 140/3 normally gives a public body five business days to respond and permits a written extension of up to five more business days for stated reasons. A response can grant, deny with a legal basis, ask for clarification, or invoke an extension. It does not always mean immediate production. Ask that nonexempt parts be separated and released if another part is withheld.
Under section 6, the first 50 ordinary black-and-white letter or legal pages are free, with later pages capped at $0.15 each. Color, oversize, and media may be charged at allowed actual cost. No special McDonough release-record or photo fee was found. Electronic delivery is often least costly.
McDonough Jail 2024 Snapshot
The official September 17, 2024 IDOC inspection describes a county adult jail operated by the McDonough County Sheriff's Office. It records construction in 1967, 58 listed beds, and 28 people held on inspection day. The housing listed four single cells, 21 double cells, two seven-bed dormitories, and one five-bed dormitory. The inspection found no noncompliances.
Those numbers are a dated official snapshot, not a live population report. They should not be used to estimate whether a named person is still held. No annual release total or average length of stay was found.
Why McDonough Transfers Matter
The same inspection says the jail holds people for other jurisdictions. That makes transfer ambiguity a concrete local issue. Someone booked in Macomb may be held for another county or authority. Someone finishing one McDonough matter may remain confined under a second warrant or be returned to the custodian that placed the hold.
Ask “released to whom?” A court order may resolve a McDonough charge while another basis for custody remains. If the jail entry names IDOC, search the statewide system after processing. If it names another county, contact that jail. If it indicates USMS or federal custody, follow the federal docket and holding agency. If it records ICE, use the ICE route. Do not describe any of those transfers as release to the community.
McDonough Court Release Proof
The McDonough County Circuit Clerk keeps the order that can explain the legal authority for release. The office is at #1 Courthouse Square, Macomb, IL 61455, and is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The all-court-matters number is 309-837-4889. Search by case number, defendant name, or available local route, then obtain the entered order rather than relying only on a daily docket.
A dismissal or acquittal resolves that case but does not prove there is no unrelated hold. Time served explains how a sentence was met, but the sheriff still owns the physical discharge time. A mittimus is the document committing a person to custody and may explain an IDOC transfer. Reconcile the court file with the jail entry before stating the outcome.
- Discharge

- Transfer

- Time served

McDonough Release Logistics Gaps
No reliable public source established a standard physical release time, release door, weekend or holiday practice, family waiting place, public pickup point, nearby bus stop used for releases, or property pickup window. Do not infer those details from another Illinois jail. Call the jail before arranging pickup and follow staff directions.
The inspection checklist addresses a signed itemized personal-property receipt and documentation of medication released with a detainee. If property or release medication is disputed, ask for the existing receipt or record. No public property-pickup schedule was found. The records-first approach preserves what the jail actually documented without inventing a local practice.
Release planning should also account for processing lag. A judge may enter an order before staff complete identity checks, paperwork, property return, and checks for another hold. The research did not establish a standard McDonough processing interval, so no fixed wait should be promised. A family member can note the case number and order time, then ask the jail whether another custodian or unresolved hold appears in its record. If staff cannot disclose details by phone, the written discharge or transfer entry remains the reliable fallback.
Illinois VINE can reduce repeated calls by sending a custody-change notice, yet it remains a notification service rather than the certified jail record. Agency data can lag, and a transfer message has a bounded meaning. Keep the notice time, supplying agency, jail response, and court order separate. When all sources agree, the custody path is much clearer.
